Tōshōji was a Hōjō family temple and became the final refuge associated with Hōjō Takatoki and many followers when the city fell. Excavations found stonework, a paved way, a gate trace, building foundations, drainage features, roof tiles bearing the Hōjō three-scale crest, and evidence of fire. Those remains were reburied for protection, so the site now reads mainly through its stepped medieval terrain, fence, and interpretation rather than exposed architecture. The protected ground is not open for entry, and the nearby place called Harakiri Yagura is closed because of falling-rock and rock-surface hazards. The restraint is historically useful: this is an archaeological ending, not a surviving temple interior or an accessible death chamber.
