Overview

Map: GSI Japan The Komaki–Nagakute campaign of 1584 opposed Hashiba Hideyoshi's coalition to Tokugawa Ieyasu and Oda Nobukatsu after Nobunaga's succession order fractured. Its most important surviving evidence is divided between two landscapes. At Komaki, Ieyasu refortified Nobunaga's abandoned castle with an extensive fieldwork system and maintained a strategic standoff. At Nagakute, the attempt by a Hideyoshi-aligned force to move toward Mikawa produced a mobile battle in which Ieyasu's army killed senior commanders including Ikeda Tsuneoki. The tactical Tokugawa victory did not settle the wider political contest; negotiation and changing alliances ended the campaign. Earthworks, national historic-site components, graves, viewpoints, urban parks, and new museums now preserve different scales of that history.
