Map: GSI Japan Nagashino–Shitaragahara preserves two connected but physically distinct parts of the 1575 campaign: a siege at Nagashino Castle, defended for Tokugawa Ieyasu, and the relief battle fought several kilometres west across the Rengogawa valley. Oda Nobunaga and Ieyasu combined firearms with prepared ground, field barriers, infantry, supply, and coordinated command against Takeda Katsuyori's army. The result killed many experienced Takeda retainers but did not destroy the domain immediately. Today the castle's rivers, ditch, and earthwork, Shitaragahara's low valley and heights, reconstructed palisades, command-site markers, burial mounds, memorials, and two municipal museums allow the campaign to be read at several scales. None alone proves the familiar story of perfectly rotating volleys defeating a cavalry-only army.
