Kozukappara functioned with Suzugamori as one of Edo's principal places of execution. Crucifixion, beheading, and the public exposure of bodies made punishment visible at the city's edge, while the treatment of remains extended state violence beyond the moment of death. The historic ground was far larger than today's memorial points. Tracks, roads, buildings, and institutional boundaries now interrupt it, so neither temple precinct should be mistaken for the complete site. What survives is a distributed record: place-name, graves, monuments, religious care, and documentary identification across an urban area whose original operating spaces have largely disappeared.
