The Pearl Museum explains what a celebratory origin story can hide: cultured pearls depend on living oysters, implanted material, nacre formation, water conditions, repeated handling, harvest, grading, and distribution. Specimens, models, diagrams, and moving images connect oyster biology to work at a cultivation ground, including seeding and hama-age harvest. The displays also address environmental care and the structure, colour, and lustre of pearls. This is a modern museum rather than a preserved nineteenth-century laboratory, but it is the clearest on-site place to understand why cultivation was a biological and industrial system. It replaces the misleading idea that a finished jewel simply appeared once Mikimoto had an inspiration.
