Map: GSI Japan Chihaya-Akasaka preserves a network of mountain strongholds and settlement archaeology associated with Kusunoki Masashige's resistance to the Kamakura shogunate in 1331–1333. Chihaya Castle is the best-known position, but Kami-Akasaka and Shimo-Akasaka show that defence depended on multiple ridges, temporary works, local movement, and a base landscape rather than one isolated fortress. No medieval keep or palace survives. What visitors encounter are shaped slopes, baileys, cut banks, possible stone settings, shrines, monuments, fields, excavation results, and difficult terrain whose military value becomes clear only when the sites are read together.
