Sources consulted 16 September 2026. “Hidden Christians” is used broadly for communities preserving Christian traditions under prohibition; later practices outside the Catholic Church are identified contextually. Modern ethnographic observations are not projected unchanged onto the seventeenth century. No claim of personal attendance, original missionary-letter examination, or religious authenticity adjudication is made.

Japan Tourism Agency, “Sotome Hidden Christian Culture Museum,” FY2020 interpretive text, paragraphs on calendars and late-nineteenth-century devotional objects. Supports the chōkata's copying practice, surviving early-twentieth-century calendars, and concealment of objects after renewed missionary contact. The tradition attributing a calendar to Bastian in 1634 is not independently established here, and the essay does not treat every surviving copy as an early-seventeenth-century original. https://www.mlit.go.jp/tagengo-db/en/R2-00472.html
